 What we do

Communication & Workplace Skills develops and maintains a range of courses, modules and resources related to communication and employability skills. These include:

  • major courses such as Diploma of Communication and Media, Certificate III in Communication Skills and Graduate Certificate in Management Communication
  • short courses such as Statement of Attainment in Writing and Editing and Statement of Attainment in Speaking and Presentation Skills
  • modules and support materials for delivery to students in all industry areas
  • web based resources to support delivery of communication modules from a range of courses.

The focus is on supporting Institutes to deliver curriculum which is contextualised and integrated so that communication competencies are developed with an industry focus.

Communication programs cover a range of competency areas including:

  • workplace writing
  • presentation skills
  • working in teams
  • report writing
  • dealing with customers
  • conflict resolution
  • negotiation skills
  • employability skills
  • job-seeking skills

We develop guidelines and resources so that Communication modules and courses can be delivered through a range of flexible teaching and learning strategies, incorporating on-the-job and off-the-job delivery.

Communication programs cover all industry areas and are central to the National Key Competencies.

Communication modules are included in all mainstream TAFE courses. Specialised courses in Communication are offered at Certificate II, Certificate III and Graduate level to enable supervisors and managers to gain a qualification in Communication Skills.
