What we doLanguages Other Than English (LOTE) & Women's Programs provides a range of programs in languages designed to meet industry and community needs and vocational objectives including pre-vocational and entry level programs for women. TAFE NSWs major focus with languages provision is with adult learners who require language skills as part of their working life. Programs are available in a number of languages including AUSLAN (Australian Signed Language). Interpreter training programs are included within the scope of this program area. Skills in languages other than English enhance vocational opportunities in many areas including:
This Program Area also has responsibility for Women only courses. The courses aim to improve access, participation and outcomes for women in Vocational Education and Training. The courses target women who have been away from the workforce for a long time and wish to increase their self-confidence and skills, including literacy and numeracy skills, in order to re-enter the workforce. The International Students Centre assists and advises international students who would like to study in Australia on a student visa at a TAFE NSW institute, TAFE English language centre or a NSW government high school. International Students can get help at all stages, from initial enquiries through to post course completion.
