Students of the Diploma in Theatre Costume Manufacturing are involved in a comprehensive part time training program that covers a wide range of technical applications including costume research and interpretation for a performance context, pattern cutting and draping, costume construction, art finishing, millinery, accessory development as well as interpersonal skills development. The on-campus training is supplemented and enhanced by on-the-job experience with notable production companies in theatre, television, film and the entertainment industries in general. Over the last 12 months students have worked in wardrobe departments for such companies as Bell Shakespeare Company Australia, Opera Australia, Belvoir Street Theatre, Fox Studios, Sydney Theatre Company, SOCOG, Marion Street Theatre, Ensemble Theatre, Channel 7 and ABC TV. The integrated project represents a culmination of skills and knowledge as students approach the end of their Diploma in Theatre Costume Manufacturing. Each student selects a costume project that is researched and developed within a performance context. A mentor is assigned for consultation and guidance. Each completed project is assessed by an industry representative expert in the particular field. |
