Eleanor Keene

I really enjoy researching, I love period costumes, I can't get enough of history books and I also enjoy fabric and costume sourcing and buying. I'm a good organiser & love working in this industry.

There have been many skills I have gained at TAFE. Some I particularly enjoyed are:

  • jewellery making
  • mask making
  • costume research
  • millinery
I expanded on my millinery skills in my last year, creating a collection of headwear based on fairytales.

Over the last few years, as part of the Diploma in Theatre Costume Manufacturing I have had some wonderful work experience. I have worked on many short films, one being screened in Tropfest earlier in 1999. In 1998 I had a contract with the TV program 'Murder Call' where I worked in the wardrobe department altering clothes and dressing the main cast. This experience gave me a very realistic insight into film and television work.

Through studying the Diploma of Theatre Manufacturing at East Sydney, I have gained much practical experience. Through my work in television however, I have learnt that excellent people skills are needed too. I feel that one of my special qualities that I bring to this industry is my lively outgoing nature.

My long term plan is to study costume history overseas. Currently my plans are to continue working in film and television.

So if you have any offers, contact me - Eleanor Keene.

The Sleeping Beauty
Once Upon A Time......there lived a beautiful princess

I plan to produce headwear for six characters from the fairy tale 'Sleeping Beauty'.  My version of 'Sleeping Beauty' will be a film in the style of the recently released film 'Ever After' the Cinderella story. It will be slightly Hollywoodized, the chartacter very stereotyped, with a little bit of modern wit and humour. The setting is the middle ages, mid 1400's, offering a diverse range of style and shapes in headwear. The headwear will be very detailed in contruction and decoration. Detailed surface embellisment will be very important.

Beauty
A beautiful princess in every way
The Bad Fairy
Heart shaped headwear of this period, tall and wide  and kind of alien/monster like. Exaggerated height and size accentuating her power. This definitely spells 'POWER'.
The Good Fairy
Hair free flowing held by a delicate crown of pearls, sparkling gems and leaves
The Queen
Regal, Rich, Ornate
The King
A crown fit for a king

The Prince
100 years later, of course...
