REBECCA MERYMENT

What aspects of the Fashion Industry
     interest you?

I have developed a strong interest in all aspects of the Clothing Manufacturing Industry. TAFE studies and work placement both have expanded my knowledge and skills in this industry.

What are your areas of knowledge and
    experience within the industry?

My expertise lies in Customised Patternmaking, Quality Assurance and Marketing. I have also studied people skills, self-management and intercultural skills, which I know are important skills for communicating in such a highly network based Industry.

My recent experience was involved in production and quality testing in a medium, manufacturing company, New Plains. I was responsible for the bundling of pattern pieces and accessories, cutting of sample garments, and carrying out fabric testing procedures. In addition, I was involved in checking nest grades, filing and completing specification sheets.

What do you plan for your career in the industry?

My career interest is to be a fabric or trims buyer. I am also interested in customised production and styling (visual merchandising). One day I would love to operate and own my own business.

What extra special qualities can you bring to
     the Industry?

I believe my strengths are my enthusiasm, motivation and the willing to learn. I also work well both individually and in a team environment.

STEWART HALL

    Fashion Industry interests:

I am interested in all aspects of fashion, more specifically Design. My prior work experience was in an aesthetic-based industry.

Prior to studying fashion I had been a Hairdresser for fourteen years. I have also done a lot of freelance hairdressing for Catwalk parades, magazine shoots etc. As well as this I had my own successful business for six years, and have been teaching hairdressing for the past ten years. One of the components to teaching hairdressing is a subject called Elements of Design, so there was therefore a natural transition to Fashion. I then contacted a friend who owns a clothing retail outlet, and asked if there was any part-time work; there was, and I have been working there for the past two years on a Sunday during my time of study. This I feel has given me insight into the Fashion world that I otherwise would not have had.

I hope not only to succeed in my new chosen career but excel, and possibly then branching into Freelance Fashion Journalism. I feel that then I will have a broad base of knowledge in this industry.

One of the advantages of owning ones own business, then choosing to start again in another field, gives one an opportunity to have a fresh perspective, and a fresh working life, which I feel promotes enthusiasm and inspiration.
