Jodie
Minus

Jodie is a lively, thoughtful, independent culture jammer. She has a passion for fabric, words and pictures, believing that a combination of these three elements has the power to move and shake. She might be a dreamer but she is also hardworking, resourceful and creatively adept.

Apart from completing the Diploma in Apparel Manufacturing, she has also received a Certificate in Fashion Headwear, which she found to be a fantastic medium but with a too small market.

Jodies' main love is film and theatre and she has worked as Costume Designer on several short films including, 'The Member For Sexton' and 'Fallen Fool Again', which were both shown at various film festivals, throughout the country. Jodie has worked in theatre, including backstage on Miss Saigon and also wardrobe maintenance on other productions. She is dreaming about the day she can quit hospitality and put more of her energy into these story-telling formats.

Jodie has undertaken work placement as part of her Diploma and also in her free time at Akira Isogawa, Helene Esdaile, Table Eight, and Anthony Phillips.
Jodie is a competent machinist and patternmaker and excels at the age-old art of hand sewing, beading, and millinery techniques, and has so much to offer any company that wants to  HIRE HER NOW !

The training in the Diploma in Apparel Manufacturing that I will complete this year, has given me a sound knowledge and skills in product development and patternmaking.  I would like to work in a fashion company that develops their own designs, and possibly work with good quality sheer and knitted fabrics.

My cultural background has also given me a good knowledge of the Asian fashion industry and how it relates to the Fashion industry in Australia.

Through my studies in the Diploma in Apparel Manufacturing at East Sydney, I have been able to concentrate my studies on the production aspect of the fashion industry.  I am particularly interested in product development and patternmaking.

As part of my training, I can confidently use several different CAD systems (Artist, Lectra, and Gerber), for a range of applications from product development, through to patternmaking, pattern grading and marker making.  I enjoy the challenge of sourcing appropriate fabrics and accessories to help fabricate a style within a budget parameter.  I am particularly interested to apply these skills to the surf wear and street wear areas of the Australian fashion industry.

During the course, I was given workplacement at the types of companies that reflected my career interests.

Companies such as Sea Folly, Paddy Pallin, Shamrock Surf and Skate, and Liquid Culture, provided me with the opportunities to be a member of enthusiastic and motivated work teams, as well as a worthwhile individual contributor to a company.

I hope to build on my current CAD skills with graphic design training  focussing on fabric print development.

As a student in the Diploma in Apparel Manufacturing, I focussed my study on customised garment manufacture incorporating computer technology via Lectra Systemes.

My main areas of interest in the fashion industry, are patternmaking, pattern grading and sample machining.

I enjoy being involved in the whole production process from the development of a style through to the finishing of the garment, including adding creative embellishments, such as beading or embroidery.

I believe that quality is of major importance to customer satisfaction and the commercial success of a product.  I follow this philosophy in my work.

I would like to be given the opportunity to use all of these skills in my career in the fashion industry.

Throughout my studies I have gained skills and knowledge in many aspects within the fashion industry.

Product research and product development is an area that I have a keen interest in. Utilising all the CAD facilities available throughout the Apparel Manufacturing Diploma has given me a great understanding of the diversity of technology within the industry today.

I have good communication and self-management skills that suit the ever-changing demands that exist in this industry.

Throughout the past two years I have also gained invaluable work experience from the following companies: Dolina, Charlie Brown / Lilli, Kentia Andiamo, Seafolly and Carla Zampatti. During this time I was able to gain an insight into fabric selection, cutting, and Gerber , Lectra CAD patternmaking and production.

I have a very vibrant personality and a great eye for colour and design. I would like to gain employment in the sales, sourcing or purchasing departments. I would also enjoy working in the wardrobe departments for film or television.

Given the opportunity I am confident that I would be a great benefit to any company as I have the potential to excel in all of these areas.

I am a keen student with a passion for costume design. My ambition is to be a costume designer in the film and television industry and I am aiming to continue further study in this field. I enjoy all aspects of clothing manufacture, particularly patternmaking, fashion rendering and CAD.

I also enjoy business and marketing related subjects and hope to apply all these skills to costume. I study millinery part-time and have made and sold a number of hats this year. In my spare time I am learning hand embroidery and beading, doing voluntary work experience one day a week with a Sydney based embroiderer.
