During my time at East Sydney campus studying the Diploma
in Apparel Manufacturing, I have focussed my study path towards marketing
and quality management. This is the area of the fashion industry
in which I would like to work.
I had the opportunity to work in several companies as
part of the student workplacement program. These were Trackmaster,
Akira, Queto Fashions, Riece Fashions, and Collette Dinnigan.
I believe I am a big team player and enjoy working in
groups. My ‘people skills’ help me to work well in a group and my
ability to openly communicate helps others to communicate as well.

The Sydney Institute has over the past two
years added to my skills and expertise in a creative and dynamic arena.
My passion is swimwear, and the pursuit of the ultimate
swimwear design. As a keen surfer and water sports enthusiast, I
can empathise with the need to develop swimwear with style and function
in mind.
I work well as part of a team and also individually to
produce work of a high standard. As an organised person who pays
attention to detail, along with my strong communication and negotiation
skills, I am striving for a successful career in production management.
Through gaining patternmaking and sewing machine skills I have developed
a sound knowledge of the fashion manufacturing process.
My experience as a result of the student workplacement
program has been at Carla Zampatti, Rugged Earth, Nelder Jones, Full Bloom
and Running Bare.
My other interests are in millinery. For the past
2 years I have been studying the Headwear Manufacturing course at East
Sydney campus. I enjoy creative, fun, fabric hats for the beach.
As a lover of the outdoors, adventure and travel, I have
a strong, environmental awareness and would enjoy working with a company
that uses environmentally friendly production and products.

Whilst studying at the Sydney Institute, East Sydney campus,
I have developed skills in many aspects of the fashion manufacturing process.
These skills include product development, sourcing fabrics and accessories,
patternmaking, quality control and sample garment machining.
The training was very realistic because of the way students
had the opportunity to put their acquired skills to the test through the
student workplacement program.
I was given the opportunity to work in a variety of host
companies during the course. These companies were Aztec Rose, Carla
Zampatti, Events, Charlie Brown, Aboud Apparel, and Mim Design.
I believe that my strengths are that I am a motivated,
enthusiastic person who is always willing to learn and can work individually
or in a team. I enjoy a challenge!

Hello! I’m Maria Ricciardo.
In studying the Diploma in Apparel Manufacturing I’ve
developed a strong interest in all aspects of fashion production, particularly
product researching, range development and sample garment making.
I have learned many skills during this course – manual
and computerised patternmaking and grading, product research and development;
sample cutting, machining, tailoring, marketing fundamentals, workplace
communication and efficient self-management.
My main objective is to further develop my skills and
make a markable contribution to the success of the company for which I
work.
I take all requests with a positive & enthusiastic
approach. I am organised and work well in a team as well as individually.
I am more than willing to learn and I have excellent communication skills.
I am honest and would be a reliable asset to any company.

I am driven by the idea of a uniquely created garment with a focus on perfectly individualised fit and finishes. Made to
measure is therefore an area of the fashion industry that I would like to pursue employment. I have enjoyed product design and research,
sourcing the most appropriate fabrics and accessories for the design and budget.
Work placement at Akira Isogawa, Charlie Brown / Lili,
Kerry Mc Gee, Nelder Jones, Jonathon Ward Couture and Karen Torrisi have
all given me a great insight into this particular area of fashion. Throughout
my encounters at these companies I have been able to gain knowledge of
design and patternmaking room procedures including both Gerber and Lectra
technology. I also accumulated a great insight into the production operations
and marketing areas.
I would like to gain employment in an evening and bridal
wear company, as I have unique eye for design and style. I have a strong
willingness to learn and achieve.

My main interests in the fashion industry are within the
areas of research and product development, with an emphasis on the creative
use of colour.
Through the student workplacement program, which is part
of the Diploma in Apparel Manufacturing, I was given the opportunity to
work in a variety of fashion companies – Akira Isagowa, Andiamo, Running
Bare, Hound Dog, Nelder Jones and the Discovery Group.
At these companies I was able to put into practise the
various skills learned at college as part of the Diploma; skills such as
sample cutting, quality control, records management and finishing of sample
garments.
These experiences have also helped me to plan my career
future, possibly in the evening wear market. I would like to be able to
start in a job where I could gradually work my way up to higher positions.
