Although I am interested in most areas of the
fashion industry, those I enjoy the most are patternmaking both manual and CAD and
the construction of made-to-measure garments.
For the past 18 months I have worked part-time
at Hartney & Johnson Designers & Costumiers. This experience has combined both of
my interests in patternmaking & constructing made to measure Bridal & Eveningwear.
Assisting in the creation of costumes for shows like My Fair Lady has also
given me an invaluable insight into the diversity of the fashion industry.
As part of the Apparel Manufacturing Diploma I
also completed work placement for the following companies: Nelder Jones, Billion Dollar
Babes & Fred Bare. During this experience I did some patternmaking & Grading,
sample cutting, garment construction, quality assurance & client fittings.
I have a good eye for detail and insist on
accuracy and as I have worked in the public relations & hospitality areas my
communication skills are beneficial to any work place.

For the past three years
I have been employed on a part-time basis as a design room assistant at Velani by
Nicky, a made-to-measure bridal boutique. During this time I have also completed the
Diploma in Apparel Manufacturing and the Portfolio Presentation Workshop at Sydney
Institute, East Sydney campus.
My preferred areas of study within the course were product
development, patternmaking and customised garment making.
As part of the student workplacement program I worked at Gem
Fashions, Carla Zampatti, and Karen Toririsi Beading Services.
Throughout my studies individuality and quality have been my
priority in the work that I produce; and because of this, I have had high-grade outcomes
in the course.
I would like to work in the product development and
patternmaking areas of a fashion company, and progress through to an executive or
managerial position in the future.

I have always wanted to
do something creative and the Diploma in Apparel Manufacturing has given me the
opportunity to practice that skill.
I have enjoyed studying all areas of this course and have a
particular interest in patternmaking. I found working on the Lectra and Gerber
computerised patternmaking systems very interesting and I am confident working in this
technological environment..
Through the student workplacement program, which is part of
the course at Sydney Institute, I worked at Sports Knit, Gloster Apparel Productions,
Zimmermann, Karen Torrisi Beading Service, and The Colour Studio. At these companies
I was involved in fabric laying according to the marker specifications, sample cutting,
quality control, and beading.
I enjoy working as part of a productive team that achieves
deadlines. I hope to have a career in the fashion industry as a patternmaker.

Having shown a keen
interest in design, colour and fabrication from a young age it was only natural that I set
out to develop this interest further. While studying the Diploma of Apparel Manufacturing
I have completed work experience at Collette Dinnigan, Jonathan Ward, Janelle Rayner,
Trackmaster, Kerry McGee and; Nelder Jones. I am at present employed at Nelder Jones on a
part time basis. I assist in customer fittings, garment finishing and deal directly with
customers, enjoying the opportunity to use my skills in design, fabrication and
communication.
My experience has lead me in the direction of customised made
to measure, special occasion wear. I currently make formal wear from home and have had my
designs featured at the Annual Mudgee Field Day 1999 Fashion Parade.
My marks throughout the Diploma have been of an equally high
standard, however I have particularly enjoyed product & research development,
patternmaking, tailoring, special occasion wear and pattern grading.
I would like to pursue a career where I could further develop
and utilise my skills.
I cope well with a constantly changing environment, as I am
able to adapt quickly to different tasks.

After
compiling my HSC in
1997 at Bonnyrigg High, I then enrolled in the Diploma of Apparel Manufacturing.
During my time studying at the Sydney Institute, East Sydney Campus I have gained skills
in patternmaking, pattern grading, garment construction, quality control procedures and
using a number of CAD systems.
My plan after graduating
in the Diploma is to gain employment
in the industry and continue studying at night in the Advanced Diploma of Apparel
Manufacturing Management.
I've have gained an interest in working on a Lectra System as
I applied myself and enjoyed Patternmaking & Grading using this software program. I
also enjoy sourcing & researching fashion ideas, and could imagine working within
Quality departments & Sales.
I can work within a group or individually. I am enthusiastic
to work with a number of computer systems in the Patternmaking. Production or Design
Departments.
