Do I have to do all the courses?
No - you choose the course
that offers training a the level you require. Each course incorporates
material from the courses provided at lower levels. Assistance in
selecting the appropriate course is available from all NSW Agriculture
and TAFE NSW course providers.
Do I have
to be currently working with chemicals to do the training?
The Chemical Safety Course does not
require you to work with chemicals. You can complete this course even
if you have never used agricultural or veterinary chemicals. The
Chemical Application and Managing Chemical Use Courses do, however,
require you to apply the training to your workplace. You can do this
with work experience as part of the training program or with part-time
or full-time work.
Do I have
to attend the training to gain a recognised Statement of Attainment?
This depends on your experience and
ability with chemicals. Most people will attend the training and
associated assessment but some will choose an assessment-only path.
This needs to be discussed with your TAFE NSW or NSW Agriculture
course provider.
What if I
have previously completed Farmcare/ChemCert training?
A bridging course is available to
upgrade you to the Chemical Application Course if your
Farmcare/ChemCert recognition has lapsed. If you wish to upgrade to
the Managing Chemical Use Course, you have a number of alternatives.
You can choose between:
Are
the courses accredited and recognised nationally?
Yes - the course have been
accredited by the NSW Vocational Education and training Accreditation
Board (VETAB) and satisfy the relevant Units of Competence in the
Agriculture and Horticulture Training Packages. On
successful completion of training and assessment, you will receive a
Statement of Attainment which will be recognised nationally and can
contribute towards you gaining a qualification.
Do these
course satisfy regulatory requirements?
Yes - the Chemical Application and
managing Chemical Use Courses satisfy the national Registration
Authority (NRA) training requirement for access to most restricted
chemicals and the anticipated training requirements of the NSW
Pesticides Act 1999.
How will
my farm chemical supplier recognise the training?
You will be issued with a SMARTtrain
card which will be accepted by all suppliers.
